The challenges we face did not come about by accident. They are the result of policy choices. We need to reassess those choices if we want to realize the changes that are so badly needed. First and foremost, I will vigorously protect democracy. However, I understand that many Vermonters are struggling and lofty visions about democracy won’t directly put food on the table, provide for an affordable place to live, or ensure that everyone has appropriate health care, so my second priority is to fight to enable Vermonters to thrive, not just survive. My third priority is to protect all that makes Vermont, Vermont. This will take hard work, but I don’t think any of these things have to come at the expense of others. I’ve proven that I have the disciplined imagination to find solutions to complex problems.
Protecting Democracy
First and foremost, I will vigorously protect democracy. Unless we can protect democracy, nothing else matters. We can’t have substantive discussions when we don’t have a voice..
Protecting Vermonters
My second priority is to fight to make Vermont a place where the people come before corporations, everyone has what they need to thrive, not just survive, and costs don’t fall disproportionately on those least able to afford them.
Protecting Vermont
My third priority is to protect Vermont. This covers a lot of things, such as addressing climate change, protecting our working landscape, ensuring that we have clean air and water, but also ensuring that we have great schools, places to find meaningful employment, and a vibrant business environment.
About Me
My Background
I live in Garfield, Hyde Park with my wife Kim, and a variety of pets. I’ve been a Lamoille County resident for over forty years. My three children went through the Hyde Park and Lamoille Union School Districts and now are adults enjoyably making their way through the world. I was a member of the Hyde Park Elementary School District Board for ten years, with three as Chair. Professionally, I have a B.S. from Champlain College and an MBA from Indiana University. I’ve been a government technology strategist for over 35 years, working at both the State and Federal levels. For fun, I can be found skiing, sailing, doing most anything out in the wild, DIY anything, and traveling.
My Values
My number one value is integrity. I’m committed to doing the right thing, even when no one is looking and even if it doesn’t benefit me. This is something I’ll never compromise on. Other values include equality and respect for every individual. I find joy in a job well done and actually get excited when I have a thorny problem to solve. I am one who follows the facts and data and then applies a healthy amount of disciplined imagination to come up with creative solutions to vexing problems. I am committed to using my talents and industriousness to make our community a better place.
My Commitment
I am committed to transparency and honest dialog. I’ll keep my promises so I can’t say I will never make a mistake, but I will always learn from them and work to make it right. I’ll always listen, and this might mean that I change my view on an issue, but I’ll never change my values. I’ll explain why I took the action I took and accept your feedback with respect. I will communicate regularly and always strive to do better. I am committed to make Vermont, our country, and our world a better place for everyone, regardless of who they are. I am committed to respect both on the campaign trail and once I am representing you in the State House. I am committed to being the kind of representative who will make you proud of our government.
